V-Day

Yes, a box of 8GB of memory would be an awesome Valentine for someone like me, but today is not that sort of day. Instead, today is Vista Day, and more specifically, Vista 64bit Ultimate Day. I'm finally making the leap from 32bit Windows XP to 64bit Vista. Why you ask? I want more than the 3GB memory limit which 32bit XP offers (even though I'm only using 2GB now), and I really need to keep up with current "technology" if I still plan on being the occasional help-desk for family & friends. This is no small decision though, given all the bad rap Vista has taken since its release - especially with regard to finding 64bit drivers for hardware. But recent reviews have given me hope that it has had time to settle and mature. I guess I'll find out in the next few hours. See you on the other side!

Update: Sunday Feb 8
So far so good. The install went smoothly and I haven't had any issues yet with 64bit driver availability. Still have my Epson R2880 printer, a Dymo label printer, Wacom tablet, and X-Rite colorimeter to install yet, but I don't anticipate any problems. However, re-installing all of my software is no small chore! It'll take a few days to get back to normal.

Oh, and by the way, that desktop background in the picture is just for show. Back to solid dark gray for me ;).
